Wales Illegal Money Lending Unit

Have you borrowed money from an illegal money lender (referred to as loan sharks)?
 
Well, help is at hand.  The Consumer Credit Act was brought in to protect people who borrow money.  Any money lender must have a licence.
 
The first thing to know is that you don't have to pay the 'loan shark' any money back, the loan is unenforcable.
 
Trading Standards in Wales have stet up a team to tackle the problem of illegal money lending.

Tax Credits

Find all you need to know about Working Tax Credit, Child Tax Credits and The Childcare Element on the gov.uk website.
 
You could get Working Tax Credit if:
you're aged 16 or over
you work a certain number of hours a week
you get paid for the work you do (or expect to) your income is below a certain level
The basic amount of Working Tax Credit is up to £1,920 a year - you could get more (or less) depending on your circumstances and income.
 
 
You could get Child Tax Credit for each child you're responsible for if they're:

Personal Independence Payment (PIP)

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) has replaced Disability Living Allowance (DLA).
 
The  online checker uses the claimant's date of birth to work out when they might be affected. This can be a useful tool for those offering support and is available at gov.uk 
 
Personal Independence Payment (PIP) helps with some of the extra costs caused by long-term ill-health or a disability if you’re aged 16 to 64.

What will PaCE Offer?
• PaCE will help parents/guardians not in employment into training and employment.
• PaCE will help find and fund solutions to overcome childcare barriers to enable parents/guardians to prepare for and access employment opportunities.
• Parent Employment Advisers will engage with parents on a voluntary basis to establish realistic and achievable goals.

Nest is a Welsh Government funded programme designed to help make your home warmer and lower the cost of your energy bills.
 
Call freephone 0808 808 22 44 if you're worried about the cost of heating your home.  You will be expected to have your benefit details to hand during the phone call. The friendly Nest advisors can give you advice on:

National Debt Line

The helpline that provides free, confidential and independent advice on how to deal with debt problems.
 
National Debtline are committed to answering your call and then discussing your debt problems with you and the options available to you. The specialist advice given over the telephone is backed up with written self-help materials which can be send out to you for free.   If your circumstances meet certain criteria, assistance is available in setting up a debt management plan or debt relief order, for free.

Home Heat Helpline

The Home Heat Helpline advises people worried about paying their energy bills and keeping warm during the winter.
 
It also gives advice to low-income households in urgent need of heating help and advice. It is free to call and is open 9am-5.30pm Monday to Fridays.
