Family Support & Emotional Wellbeing Services for Children, Young People & Families


Monmouthshire Families First is made up of a number of services that aim to support children, young people and their families.

Families First services will work with your family to help you look at what is working well in your life, to decide what help you need for your family to thrive.


Who is it for?

Home Start Monmouthshire

Monmouthshire Homestart helps to increase the confidence and independence of families by:
Visiting families in their own homes to offer support, friendship and practical assistance.
Reassuring parents that their childcare problems are not unusual or unique.
Encouraging parents' strengths and emotional well-being for the ultimate benefit of their children. Trying to get the fun back into family life
Volunteers, who have parenting experience themselves, can offer:
Precious time for listening and talking

Gwent Drug and Alcohol Service

Gwent Wide substance misuse service provided by a consortium made up of Kaleidoscope, Drugaid and G4S. The service provides a full range of recovery orientated services for adults over 18 who are motivated to make changes to their use of substances and will offer support to families and concerned others affected by substance misuse issues. This service also incorporate criminal justice substance misuse interventions.
These services include;

Dads Can

Dads Can is an on the ground project for young men between the ages of 14 and 25 who live in Monmouthshire and who are dads, expectant dads or are fulfilling the dad role (Grand-dads, 'step-dads', foster dads, mum's partner, older brother etc).   Dads Can aim to raise the understanding of young dads' and those around them of the important role fathers play in their children's lives – regardless of age, experience or situation.

Cyfannol Women's Aid

Cyfannol Women’s Aid is the lead domestic abuse agency in Monmouthshire and Torfaen. A charity that provides practical and emotional support, information and refuge to women and children who are experiencing domestic abuse, or have experienced domestic abuse in the past.
Cyfannol Women’s Aid provides services right throughout Monmouthshire, including Abergavenny, Monmouth, Caldicot, Chepstow and the surrounding rural communities.

Gwent N-gage - Substance Misuse Service

Gwent N-gage is the young person's substance misuse service for Monmouthshire, Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Torfaen and Newport.

Drug and alcohol information and support

Mental health support

Support for young people affected by someone else's drug use. 

Activities and training for young people

Training and support for professionals working with young people. 


Anyone can refer but consent is required from the young person.

Child Contact Centres

Child contact centres and services are neutral places where children of separated families can enjoy contact with their non-resident parents and sometimes other family members, in a comfortable and safe environment. Over four thousand volunteers and staff work in these centres and over seventeen thousand children use them each year.
Child contact services are classified into two distinct categories, supported and supervised, so that families can be referred to an appropriate environment and level of support.

Carers Trust

Crossroads Care provides services that respond to the needs of carers and the people they support, offering them peace of mind and understanding. Crossroads Care works with them and other stakeholders to influence service innovation and growth.
