Free, open access play opportunities for children aged 5 to 11 with disabilities and other support needs in an inclusive setting during the school summer holidays. Support workers offer assistance on a 1-1 basis to children so that they can play with children of their own peer group in a safe and friendly environment. The open access play sessions are held in 8 community venues in the county, offering play activities, recreation opportunities, games, arts and crafts, and a healthy snack.
Children can be referred onto the scheme by health professionals or schools for example, but families may self-refer. Referrals need to be made in advance. The process starts in April each year so that we can obtain details of individual children’s needs and to ensure that we employ and train suitable staff to offer the right level of support.
