“Do we need to get more children ‘Playing Out’ in Monmouthshire? Would you like your children to be able to play freely outside their own front door without the worry of traffic? ‘Playing Out’ is a growing national movement that is aimed at encouraging more children to come out and play where they live; the simple idea is that groups of neighbours come together to close their road to traffic for a couple of hours to let children come and play out in the street where they live.
Research shows that more street play leads to happier and healthier children as well as making communities and neighbourhoods stronger.
There are already some successful ‘play streets’ happening in Monmouthshire and now Monmouthshire Council would like to support residents to create more. We can help with gathering support from your neighbours, as well as providing training, road closure signs and play equipment.
If you’d like to find out more about the national movement visit www.playingout.net If you’d like to get involved in hosting a play street where you live in Monmouthshire then please contact Jude Langdon, Community and Partnership Development Lead at [email protected] We can’t wait to hear from you!”
