What can Flying Start provide for me and my young child?


Living in a Flying Start area will give you access to a wide range of services with the aim of giving your child a flying start in life including:

Family Rights Group

Family Rights Group's goal is to enable children to be raised safely and thrive within their family and community.

The Charity was established in 1974, by a group of lawyers, social workers and academics who were concerned about how families were treated when social services were involved with their children.


Inspire2Achieve is a service that is aimed at helping the most vulnerable pupils in Monmouthshire to stay in full time education.

Inspire2Achieve offers young people support that is tailored to their needs, including one to one mentoring, pastoral support and alternative qualifications.

The service is delivered in Monmouthshire by MCC Youth Enterprise and the Pupil Referral Service.  Careers Wales and Coleg Gwent also deliver the project as regional partners.

Building Strong Families (TAF)

Based on an assessment of family strengths and needs, the Building Strong Families team provides flexible programmes of intervention to children, young people and their families in Monmouthshire who need support with family relationships, confidence-building and self-esteem, parenting and behaviour management. 

Monmouthshire County Citizens Advice

The CAB provide free confidential non discriminatory advice and information across a wide range of subjects. If they don't know the answer to your question they can find somebody who does.

The Citizens Advice Bureaus in Monmouthshire are in the following locations:

Rehab Jigsaw

Rehab Jigsaw has a friendly team of experienced private and independent Occupational Therapists working throughout the UK with adults and children who have been affected by injury, illness or ageing. Rehab Jigsaw’s highly skilled private and independent Occupational Therapists are able to undertake assessments of a person’s everyday activities, make recommendations for assistive equipment and environmental adaptations, and provide therapy interventions to facilitate rehabilitation.

The Kiosk

The Kiosk is currently housed at the Monmouthshire Multi-Agency Centre (MAC), 26A Monk Street, Abergavenny, NP7 5NP.
The Kiosk is a computer for the public, who can use if for free. It has a direct link to Monmouthshire Housing, you can apply for housing and council tax benefits, there is a direct link to other online services as well including tenancy and mobility.
It is free to use with the support from staff at the MAC if you need it.

Pathways To Progression

Pathways to Progression provide supported accommodation and outreach support for vulnerable people who require assistance in order to progress into full independence or maintain tenancies or family placements.
They ensure the transition from care to independence runs smoothly.
Levels of support are tailored specifically to the young person's needs. This could comprise of 24hour support or an agreed/identified number of hours per day. Each young person supported will have their own key worker and be fully involved in the decisions that affect their futures.
